Oncoplastic Breast Surgery

This technique combines oncology and plastic surgery principles to remove cancerous tissue while maintaining the natural appearance of the breast. Typically performed with a lumpectomy, the procedure removes the tumor and some surrounding tissue. A breast reduction or lift is then done to ensure symmetry, often involving both breasts.

Breast Conservation Surgery (BCS)

BCS aims to remove the cancer while preserving as much of the natural breast as possible. It involves removing the cancerous lump along with a margin of surrounding tissue. Lymph nodes under the arm may also be removed to assess spread. This surgery is commonly followed by radiation therapy, and sometimes chemotherapy, to eliminate any remaining cancer cells.

Sentinel Node Biopsy (SLNB)

SLNB is a diagnostic procedure used in patients with confirmed breast cancer. It involves identifying and removing the sentinel lymph node, the first node to which cancer is likely to spread.

  • A negative SLNB means the cancer hasn’t spread.

  • A positive SLNB confirms spread and helps determine the stage of cancer and the most effective treatment plan.

Whole Breast Reconstruction

This is often performed during or after a mastectomy or lumpectomy. The goal is to recreate the natural shape of the breast using one of the following techniques:

  • Implant Reconstruction: Using silicone gel or saline implants.

  • Autologous (Flap) Reconstruction: Using tissue from another part of the body.

  • In some cases, a combination of both techniques is used.
